About the Author
Al Andrews lives in Franklin, Tennessee with his wife Nita and their sons Hunter and Brent. He grew up in Montreat, North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He is the director of Porter's Call, a non-profit that comes alongside recording artists with counsel, support and encouragement.

When his boys were young, Al took them on many kite flying expeditions which were always great fun. However, they never came home with their kites, which instead ended up in trees, crumpled on the ground, or somewhere in the airspace over Guatemala. Ever hopeful, he plans to fly them one day with his grandchildren.

This is his first children's book.

Jonathan Bouw lives in Muncie, Indiana with his wife and three children. Prior to his current home, he lived in the Republic of the Philippines, Malaysia, New York, and the state of Idaho. He studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Jonathan is a professional illustrator and is currently the Chair of the Art Department at Taylor University, in Upland, Indiana.

When he was a boy, he made and flew kites made of plastic bags and coconut tree fronds. Besides making kites, he loved to draw dinosaurs, make airplanes, create rubber band weapons, shoot bamboo canons, and climb mango trees, all of which he still enjoys, though not as frequently.

The Joy of Rebuffing "Insanity"

Al Andrews is Insane! So Is Jesus!

So is anyone who goes and buys another kite knowing that it will get swallowed up or lost or shredded again and again and again!

Jesus is also in the know about something beyond insanity - it is called hope!

Al's story invites us into the vibrant, colorful and flavor-filled impartation of hope. "Because the memory of wind is stronger than the memory of the kite." Doing something over and over again expecting the same result is only insane if your world is driven by results! The journey is rich with story and experience and memory - this is what the grace of God enters: our story!!! And most especially when we are lying face down in the colorful leaves of fall feeling tormented by that unreachable kite "in caught in branches of the greedy old tree!!!

This book is a gift of grace and an invitation to live with the full-bodied taste of grace and the astounding smell of the winds of hope! Its pages are filled with beauty and joy ... I so love this book ... in fact I miss it - I had 5 now I have 0 ... time to put in my order right after this review!

Wonderfully Written - Beautifully Illustrated

I love this book!

There is a profound message deep within the pages of this book. It's rare to find a story that reaches out to both children and parents while reading this together and that's what keeps this book on a regular rotation in our home.

Thoughtful, not trite. Paced and peaceful. A story that finds it's way into your soul because the message is rooted in the heart of that love between parent and child.

The art and the imagery are moving and make this a must have for your children's book collection.

Delightful story, beautifully illustrated

Each time I read this book I am reminded of the power of story to move us. Al's imagination creates a delightful tale of loss and love, and Jonathan's beautiful illustrations vividly bring it to life visually. The story behind the story is even more amazing. Who starts a business just to give away all the net proceeds? Only someone whose heart has been captured by a greater love.

About the Author
Roger B. Nelsen was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received his BA in mathematics from DePauw University, Indiana in 1964 and his PhD in mathematics from Duke University, North Carolina in 1969. Nelson was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi, and taught mathematics and statistics at Lewis and Clark College, Portland for forty years before his retirement in 2009. His previous books include Proofs without Words (1993), An Introduction to Copulas (1999, 2nd edition 2006), Proofs without Words II (2000), Math Made Visual (with Claudi Alsina, 2006), When Less Is More (with Claudi Alsina, 2009), Charming Proofs (with Claudi Alsina, 2010), The Calculus Collection (with Caren Diefenderfer, 2010), Icons of Mathematics (with Claudi Alsina, 2011), College Calculus (with Michael Boardman, 2015), A Mathematical Space Odyssey (with Claudi Alsina, 2015) and Cameos for Calculus (2015).

This book tells the life story of Pastor Hsi, who was converted from a hard core Confucius scholar to a Christian who won thousands and saved many opium-smokers to health and new lives.
No doubt, any reader will wonder why Pastor Hsi's prayers were always answered, and no matter how difficult the financial situation was, there was always a solution to continue his ministry. I think, whoever reads the book will find the answer and many more for their own spiritual growth.
Anybody who wants to know about the history and lives in Central China in late nineteenth century should read this book. Also, the battles in spiritual world were depicted vividly and exemplified from many true stories in the book. Many people who doubt spirituality, or miracles, and those who want to find evidence for them, should read this book to see how real it can be.

A fascinating account of the work of the China Inland Mission in the mid-1800s and of one man's Christian journey and the impact it had on the whole of the region where he lived, as the refuges for those struggling with opium addiction gradually evolved into mission stations. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Relatively short, but sweet, quick, enjoyable read.

If you read only one book about only John Glenn, this is the one to read. Aging baby boomers who followed the U.S. space program from its infancy through the International Space Station will be interested to get to know the man as will persons of all ages interested in American history.
This book makes a great introduction to further reading about John Glenn and the space program.

An amazing story that can only be told & shone electronically.

Everyone knows that John Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth and later became a Senator, but this book provides a lot of details of his childhood, his trips into space and his personality. Many details of the trips into space, both good and bad are described in this book. I had heard of a few, but not most of them. There is a video of his first trip to space. The camera is focused on Glenn and the audio is very clear. Of course, there was nowhere for him to go in the Mercury capsule so he was always on camera.

I was really interested in the section about his return to space in the shuttle at the age of 77. The other astronauts were concerned about his physical ability to sustain the mission until he began training. He met the challenge, both physically and mentally to make the trip and hold up his end of the responsibilities.

I've told you a few things about the book. Now you have to read it to get all the details and hear it from the people who lived and worked with John Glenn.

Superficial, But It's Still Fun

A superficial overview of the life history to date of this exemplary astronaut and public servant. There is little depth and few if any new insights. It suffers from its short length, a lack of input from the subject or those intimately involved in the subject's life, and the apparent lack of any deep research.

Having said that, those of us who remember the heady days of Camelot, the Space Race, a more unified country and a less viscous media will enjoy this bit of nostalgia. Considering the low price and the short time it takes to read, it is worth the investment in time and finance just to look back. If you weren't there, youngsters, it is a good starting place for a deeper look what may be America's Last Hurrah.

A dedicated professional, Mary Ellen Guffey has taught business communication and business English topics for more than 35 years. She received a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from Bowling Green State University; a master's degree from the University of Illinois; and a doctorate in business and economic education from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She has taught at the University of Illinois, Santa Monica College, and Los Angeles Pierce College. She was most recently selected as the 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year for the Contra Costa Community College District.

Incredible, amazing real-life journey through a beefed up world

I first read an excerpt of this book in the magazine section of a newspaper while visiting England years ago. After that I was looking for the book to come out in the U.S.. When I didn't see it, I ordered it through Amazon. I loved this book. I am a woman, I have no muscles to speak of, and I had no interest in bodybuilding. But Hotten makes the "sport" of growing muscles come alive, and tells the incredible story of these guys getting big, bigger, biggest. What they do to succeed: be it drugs or incredible devotion or usually, a crazy combination of both -- is painted in a way to make it truly fascinating and touching.

Sometimes it's darkly funny (like the fake tan application scenes and dehydrated competitors who actually freeze up and have to be moved off stage like statues) and sometimes tragic (the ones who are permanently injured or die from their pursuit of "perfection"). It also paints a interesting portrait of Schwarzenegger and who he is, where he came from and how many have strived to follow in his footsteps. It's just a great, well-written book for any fan of modern non-fiction.

The bodybuilding scene from another perspective....

Good reading about the bodybuilding scene and history. However it spends far too much time going over the life of Arnold S. and not enough on any of the other colourful characters (that the book admits are colourful) from the top professional bodybuilders. It does tell a bit about how Arnold "really" got his start and it is far less glamorous than what we have usually been told ie....he had LOTS of help from generous people who made sacrifices on his behalf. You will like this book especially if you are a weight trainer or bodybuilder.

Pretty good about bodybuilding

It was a good book with a lot of good stories about some of the top bodybuilders around. There were some that were included and some were neglected. It could have been a little more thorough, but it was still a good read. I enjoyed it immensely!
