In Europe, "right to life" is literally interpreted in the banning of executions.

Yggdrasill in a game set in Scandia, the land of modern day Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway. you can take on the roll of anything you can think of that was around at that time. The game is rather simple to pick up, but offers loads of options for play style.

Yggdrasill is a semi-class less game, I say semi, because when you are choosing gifts, which help make your character a bit more interesting, if you want to play either a caster or Berserker, one of your two gifts has to go to Initiate of Odin or Odin's Chosen respectively. Ultimately this doesn't hurt the game at all, but for people coming from other games of Cubicle 7 such as Qin, that needs to be noted. Aside from that the system is very open to both modifying as well as just customizing from the book alone. I especially like the Fate Runes system that helps adds depth to the character. The only thing I feel slightly takes away from this book is that the adventure at the back is pretty railroaded (linear) as written so a GM should read through it first and then make necessary changed to fit with that the group wants. Aside from that minor detail the game is solid and a lot of fun. If you want more in-depth info on this, I suggest looking up reviews via Google or YouTube.

Slickly Produced & Well Written

Even if you weren't going to run this game with the system right 'out of the box' the general ideas are pretty rich and decently detailed. Writing runs from reasonably clear and concise to evocative and the overall print quality of my particular book was fantastic! Maybe not a treasure trove of ideas, but certainly a good start. I bought this with a similarly themed product from another company and the Yggdrasill Core Book stood up well against the competition (which wasn't shabby in its own right).

Excellent book!

This is a great game with solid gameplay rules and filled with an amazing amount of detail.

I would give this game a five but for two reasons.
1) The book feels over priced for its size and the pages are sepia toned but still good looking none-the-less.

2) Your characters live to die and are very mortal.

A good game but not for everybody. Even if you never play the game its filled with excellent source material.

Moving between Structure and Culture

Wilson's pithy volume, part of Henry Louis Gates's Issues of Our Time series with Norton, presents a critical synopsis of the great debates in urban sociology over the past fifty years. *More than Just Race* considers how sociologists from Elliot Liebow to Sudhir Alladi Venkatesh have tarried with the question of urban poverty. In reflecting on these different perspectives, Wilson presents an illuminating narrative about one of the most charged areas of American public policy.

One of the book's notable strengths is the extraordinary breadth of sociological knowledge Wilson displays in his writing. Wilson's survey of urban sociology bespeaks years of research and work in the field, though his prose remains accessible and engaging. Further, by organizing the book into three interrelated chapters -- on how poverty affects 1) urban space; 2) young black men; and 3) black families/single black mothers -- Wilson presents the sociological literature in a clear, theme-oriented manner. His chapter on black families and the Moynihan Report is especially well-composed.

The book's other great virtue is that it condenses the longstanding debate scholars and policy-makers have had in determining the role structural inequalities and cultural variables play in the persistence of urban poverty. Seeing the merits of both sides of the debate, Wilson believes the problem is best understood as an amalgam of institutional and cultural factors. Although Wilson makes this particular point in a somewhat repetitive fashion, the overall effect of his argument is edifying: it moves beyond putatively "liberal" and "conservative" positions in the urban poverty debate to outline a synthetic view of the everyday realities of inner-city life.

A Proper Middle Ground

This brief but powerful monograph lays out the proper middle ground: the social position of African Americans is neither the result of the "structural" factors alone (institutional arrangements that largely perpetuate disadvantages), nor of "cultural" factors alone (Black American family, work, language, religion, etc.). Professor Wilson argues persuasively the need to attend to both sets of influences. On the other hand, he sees the structural factors as the more influential.

The structural/cultural debate has been influenced by ideological commitments by the various theorists, and it is one of the great virtues of this book that Wilson explains this ideological baggage and transcends it. In that sense, this book clears much of the underbrush and should thus enable future work to avoid the pitfalls of the past.

The book does give a wealth of information about previous work by others. But with all that, it is what it is: largely programmatic. I did put it down with some disappointment that it didn't do more. I had hoped for a thicker description, for example, of some of the cultural factors. What do we know, in the 21st century, about Black language, Black churches, Black family patterns, etc. ? Wilson does bring us up to date on structural matters, largely with reference to census and poll data. But the current state of work on Black culture still awaits a summary exposition.

More than just race, and what I learned about myself and my past.

In this short 155 page informative non-fiction academic novel, I feel I have been taken to a world completely alien, despite growing up in a low income community myself. In truth, this world was alien to me because I made it alien. As a young man, I witnessed firsthand and recognized at an early age the self-destructive behavior amongst blacks within the black community. Not caring for academic progression, the tendency for imprudent behavior leading to criminal behavior, and women too often priding in their promiscuousness that always eventually lead to early pregnancy. I saw all of these things and decided I would not fall into the trap that cycled throughout my neighborhood. To do so, not only required physically removing myself from that environment (I switched to a magnet high school my junior year), but it also required that I removed myself mentally and emotionally, by claiming that these people were different from myself, in so much that they intentionally not allow themselves to progress. Along with it went my empathy for the black person, and replaced with ignorant opinion and na�ve reasons to why blacks were such seemingly failures.

This book has been a significantly eye-opening experience. It has allowed me to put the cultural behavioral I have witnessed throughout my life into a categorical mental classification of awareness within the larger intellectual genome of understanding. I know now that the current situation of blacks have been very much influenced by racial policies that were both explicit, i.e. Jim Crow, and implicit, i.e. reduction of federal financial support of areas of high black populations such as the inner city. Additionally, I've been able to draw parallels in the African American plight and that of other black nations, such as that of Haiti, my country of birth, and recognize the traces of similar structural deficiencies put in place by centuries of racism.

This book neither shies away from analysis of the critique that blacks and the behavioral response that have arisen are now the culprits for their stagnated position within society and those alone. The author is unable to agree with these sorts of arguments as they seem to be unsubstantiated through even the most biased of academic research. According to the author, the clearest contrarian piece of evidence against cultural argument was the economic boom of the early 1990s. The rise in productivity, and domestic capital accruement, saw unprecedented decrease in unemployment throughout the U.S.. If cultural arguments were true, then unemployment in low income black communities would have stayed constant, or at least would have experienced a change that was lower than the rest of nation, but this was not seen. Given the OPPORTUNITY, poor blacks changed behavior that was previously attributed to condemnation engrained and sourced from their "culture."

The author argues that America needs to change the language used during discussions of race and class. First the language needs to merge the rhetoric of both the right, whom tend to lean towards more of a cultural tone, and that of the left, whom tend to lean towards a restrictive structural tone, to properly appeal to a larger more section of Americans. Second, to face the structural issues facing low income blacks and other minorities and for such action to be truly effective, a problem must be executed with discretionary vocabulary, language, and tone that extols the virtues of America's individualistic pathology to its advantage, such as labeling and designing such programs as `opportunity enhancing' and `hand-up providing.'

Godling, illusionist and an Illuminati feel

This is the 3rd book I have read by this author and by far, my favorite. This book had a The Da Vinci Code/Illuminati feel to it. I loved that. It was definitely something different and trying to figure out what was happening kept me enthralled.

Our H is Prince Jesaja. He is a Godling that will soon be turning into a full God when he is 21. Our h is Kaley. She is a performer/illusionist on a ship that is trying to save money to buy her own ship and rescue her sisters. Kaley and the rest of the performers are having so much of their pay deducted that Kaley is getting discouraged. She is always asked to do private performances but has always declined, until now. She agrees to 3 days were of performances and a bodyguard. When she boards the dragon spaceship, she is greeted by the guardian priest of the Godling. There is something about him that doesn't seem right. She is given strict instructions on what she can and cannot allow in her performances. When she meets Jesaja and sees how weak he is, she knows something bad is going on. Who is weakening the the Godling and why?

I loved this book, I can't say that enough. I don't think I have ever read anything with an Illuminati feel to it before but I would love to read more like it. Definitely can't wait to see if another book will follow this one and where the author will go with it.

All Kaley wanted to do was free her sisters,she worked on a pleasure ship dancing and doing illusions.When Kaley was approached about doing a private dance she could not turn it down,it was a way to go after her sisters.On the ship she was to dance on,she met a godling who was very sick.Haley soon found out that there was a lot going on and wanted to help the godling.I can only tell you that sparks fly and you will have to read the book to find out the rest.This story was great.

Great Story for a Small Book

This book is definitely a great read, The pace throughout the book was even, the beginning, middle and end. Both characters had detail by the middle of the book. The ending was not rushed like in the last book. The story line was great and I would not change. The only thing I would have loved to have seen whats about the sisters, we get some detail about them, but but by the end of the book there future is still in limbo. Now if they are in the next book I understand the cut off. But I would have liked to have seen them reunited and at the wedding for some closure. Overall the book has balance, I would love to see more like this.

I don't recall much of it except it is trite like most of this stuff is starting to be. I spent very little time on it. It only mentioned 4 or 5 items, did show 1 way of making a knife, but nothing about long distance, accurate weapons to take down deer and such. A decent crossbow would have been nce.

About the Author
Dr. Ron Larson is a professor of mathematics at The Pennsylvania State University, where he has taught since 1970. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Colorado and is considered the pioneer of using multimedia to enhance the learning of mathematics, having authored over 30 software titles since 1990. Dr. Larson conducts numerous seminars and in-service workshops for math educators around the country about using computer technology as an instructional tool and motivational aid. He is the recipient of the 2014 William Holmes McGuffey Longevity Award for CALCULUS: EARLY TRANSCENDENTAL FUNCTIONS, the 2014 Text and Academic Authors Association TEXTY Award for PRECALCULUS, the 2012 William Holmes McGuffey Longevity Award for CALCULUS: AN APPLIED APPROACH, and the 1996 Text and Academic Authors Association TEXTY Award for INTERACTIVE CALCULUS (a complete text on CD-ROM that was the first mainstream college textbook to be offered on the Internet). Dr. Larson authors numerous textbooks including the best-selling Calculus series published by Cengage Learning.

Dr. Bruce H. Edwards is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Florida. Professor Edwards received his B.S. in Mathematics from Stanford University and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Dartmouth College. He taught mathematics at a university near Bogotá, Colombia, as a Peace Corps volunteer. While teaching at the University of Florida, Professor Edwards has won many teaching awards, including Teacher of the Year in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences Student Council Teacher of the Year, and the University of Florida Honors Program Teacher of the Year. He was selected by the Office of Alumni Affairs to be the Distinguished Alumni Professor for 1991-1993. Professor Edwards has taught a variety of mathematics courses at the University of Florida, from first-year calculus to graduate-level classes in algebra and numerical analysis. He has been a frequent speaker at research conferences and meetings of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He has also coauthored a wide range of award winning mathematics textbooks with Professor Ron Larson.

Very nice comprehensive textbook for calculus students

This text is one of the best thing that has happened to me. I am literally reading it all, that is from CH01 to CH15. I started it on February of this year (2015) and I am in CH11 now. Will probably finish it in 4 more months.
For math lovers: Don't worry it does not really take that long to read all the chapters, it might actually take just about 8 months at most to 1 year, perhaps less, say 6 months? The reason why it is taking me so long is because I have a full time job and I'm also taking other classes, so I only get to read it twice a week, that is a section per day, and work on Exercise problems also twice a week (different days).
About the book: This book is very comprehensive. There are some people who say that most of the examples don't explain much, well in reality they are straight forward, and most of the basic stuff, such as algebraic or trigonometric calculations is omitted from the example, which is logic because if all of the calculations were developed through this text then it would probably be much longer, like 2000 pages? And besides before taking any Calculus course you ought to know the basic stuff in your head already, correct? Like algebra, trigonometry, geometry, arithmetic. However, if you have a base knowledge on algebra and trigonometry and forgot some of the stuff, don't panic. You have CH 01 and the appendixes for review of this stuff.
Bottom line: Like in life, not everything is pink color and flowers and roses-figurative speaking-I have had my hard moments with this text like anyone who is studying calculus, if you are a math lover, and by that I mean you really love math because there are some people who say "oh I love math but calculus sucks" no! I'm talking real math lovers, then you'll get through it. The hardest chapter for me so far was CH09: Infinite Series, I still don't like it that much, but I managed to learn the material at the end.
Furthermore, I love how this book is made. Everything is so neat and organized. Well, actually the majority of college textbooks are neat and organized, but this one is outstanding. What I mean is for instance: There is not a single example through the chapters that covers more than a single page. In other math textbooks, like one that I have for Differential Equations, I have seen that the example starts on one page and ends on the next page. To me that's a con because you have to turn the page back and ford in order to figure out the context in the example. This textbook, in the other hand has all of the examples neatly organized. You don't have to be turning the pages to see the entire example and that's a super plus because you get to cover more material in less time.

A great resource!

I recently decided to take a course in calculus as a refresher after a career in engineering that spanned 40+ years. This is the book that was required for the course. At first I felt a little sticker shock compared to the books I bought (and still have) from back in the day but this book is well worth the money. It is a thorough treatment of the subject with clear explanations of the concepts and methodologies for solving complex problems, augmented by great graphics. The publisher also provides great on-line resources that students can use to check their work. The book is a definite 'keeper' for those with academic or technical career goals. My old books need to make room on the shelf; this one is so much better.

Great text for beginning Engineers.

They say this is one of the better Calculus and Analytic Geometry textbooks out there. I have mixed reviews...This does give you good information on the subject but the problems are very "here and there". I wish that the problems were progressive in the sense that they started off in the easiest example and gradually got harder. I had a PHENOMENAL Calc professor and would say I learned more from him then from this textbook. For an easy "read" (lol) be extremely well versed in Trig, logarithms and advanced Algebra. This is a great book for Engineering majors.
