Excellent resource

The theories behind anti-gravity propulsion are certainly controversial, and not accepted by so-called "mainstream" science. That is to say, they aren't accepted by those in science who haven't been "in the loop" of what the black-budget part of the US and other governments have been doing for the last 50 years. I recently took a college physics course and talked with the professor about some of these topics, and he seemed delighted to "debunk" all of these things, because they didn't agree with what he had been taught.

How many times have we seen this over the history of mankind? Does anyone remember the story of Robert Fulton, the inventor of the steamboat? It will do us all good to remember the details of his story.

Robert Fulton had an idea: to propel a boat over the water using steam power. The critics and skeptics were nearly unanimous: "It will never work!" Then he put a steam boat together and they were standing around watching him trying to get it started. "It'll never start! It'll never start!" Then he got it started, and the boat started moving down the river. "It'll never stop! It'll never stop!" (argh).

How many of you today believe what the skeptics were saying? Anyone? I didn't think so. I think that we would all do well, when facing what appears to be an impossibility (faster-than-light travel, government-built flying saucers/craft, electro-gravitic propulsion, etc), to stop and say to ourselves, "We don't know what we don't know."

1) We already know that the government has a long-standing habit of lying to the American people (that goes for every other government under the sun too). So why should we believe them when they claim that the thousands of sightings of strange-looking craft that "float" in midair, some with a strange electric hum (!!!), and that can make right-angle turns going thousands of miles an hour, are really weather balloons or swamp gas? How stupid do they think we really are?

2) We know that the US Military has a long history of black-budget programs that few people know the details about, even our Senators and Congressmen/women. Dr. LaViolette does an excellent job of reminding us of the history of Dr. Townsend's experience with the US military, and how after demonstrating the electro-gravitic effect with small tethered discs going in a circle very fast, powered by nothing but electro-gravity propulsion, suddenly the news media got very quiet about the subject, and supposedly the military was no longer interested in the subject. Really? Does anyone really believe that? I do not.

I give this book my highest recommendation, and urge everyone to get a copy and read it for yourself. We have all been lied to for a very long time, and I personally am sick and tired of it.

This book is written on a layperson's level, so that anyone with at least some high-school physics should be able to follow the discussion without much problem. And even if you can't follow the details in some places, you can skip over them and learn a lot from the rest of it.

After years of working at DOE and reading all kinds of research on different aspects of physics, I have to compliment Paul LaViolette on an astounding book. Sometimes, you have to jump off the deep end and dive down into concepts that feel threatening and challenge everything you know. I am not done with this book...it will continue to make me think, dream, and theorize about these ideas for the rest of my life. NOBODY should take this material for granted. It will challenge you, excite you, make you want to cry, and ultimately, drive you to experiment on your own. I don't have to worry about the challenge I'm including in this review because if you've read this far, you have the stamina to go further. Take it on!

Where's My Aircar?

In the 1950s when I was an avid reader of science fiction, I assumed that by now we would all be flitting through the air in levitating antigravity aircars like those in "The Jetsons" and the Starwars films. What happened? Paul LaViolette tells us what happened. The technology that would make it all possible has been swept up by the military-industrial complex and locked away in a vault of intense secrecy.

A physicist by the name of Thomas Townsend Brown, began research on electrogravitics during the 1920s. His revolutionary work on gravity control made him an important man in the scientific world. He took out patents and developed numerous working models of antigravity machines which strongly resembled our popular images of flying saucers.

During World War 2 he was inducted into the US Navy to continue his research for military purposes. It appears likely that he was involved in the notorious Philadelphia Experiment as a result of which he was forced to resign. Complete records of his military service and the circumstances of his discharge are missing.

He continued his research efforts for various corporations and laboratories until his death in 1985 but he had apparently lost the military's full confidence and he received little if any government financing. Meanwhile, the military continued with their own gravity control projects as did many of the country's largest defense contractors. Although the details of their research were kept secret, they made no secret of the fact that such research was being conducted and that it would have a tremendous impact. That was true until the 1960s when the military clamped down the lid of total secrecy, apparently, because there had been a major breakthrough. All public discussion of such research came to an abrupt halt and electrogravitics was moved into the realm of "black technology".

The practical application of gravity control seems to based on the physics of subquantum kinetics as apposed to the "classical" but incompatible physics of general relativity and quantum mechanics. According to LaViollette, the theory of subquantum kinetics successfully overcomes many of the problems associated with "classical" theories. I am absolutely not qualified to have an opinion about this nor on the extensive mathematics that he offers by way of explanation. Judging by what's available on the internet, LaViolette has the field of subquantum kinetics pretty much to himself, which makes him a lone genius or a foolish crank. On the other hand, there don't seem to be many physicists out there who have bothered to refute LaViollette's theories. All I know is, this book doesn't read like the work of a fool or a crank.

Subquantum kinetics theory permits velocities at many multiples of the speed of light, something considered impossible under the theory of relativity. LaViolette explains how a superluminal spaceship might be powered using electrogravitic technology. It has been used by scientists and engineers (blessed with virtually unlimited funding and unhindered by concerns of conformity and "respectability" that permeate academic science) working on "black projects" since at least the 1950s.

According to LaViolette, the USAF's B-2 bomber seems to incorporate electrogravitic principles in its design and construction which give it performance capabilities, such as the ability to hover silently, that are never seen publicly. It would appear that most, if not all, unexplained UFO incidents involve terrestrial military research aircraft. Since military electrogravitic technology (assuming it exists) is shrouded in secrecy, there is no way of knowing one way or the other, but he makes a convincing case.

Nick Cook's "The Hunt for Zero Point" is a good book to read in conjunction with LaViollette's work. It is much less technical and mostly concerns his investigation into the world of black technology.

Given the current state of humanity, perhaps it's a good thing we don't all have aircars. Think of the problems. Humans would be free to do anywhere, spewing their pollution, garbage, destruction, and bombs at will. There would be no defense. Fences would be useless. The entire planet would soon look like a landfill or worse. I, for one, am willing to wait for intelligent life to appear on Earth before turning electrogravitics loose.

If it turns out that this book is generally correct then it will deserve 5 stars.

A contemporary version on classic techniques

Complete information on leather and the crafting of leather photographed and laid out in a contemporary manner. Most books on leather crafting are pretty old, and the styles and projects illustrated in them are very dated. Great intro to the history & small projects with leather.

I recently was given an old set of leather working tools and became enamored with small projects. Everything local is very oriented towards Tandy Products and I was looking for something different. This is written by 2 women from Spain and the book has a very Moorish / North African feel. It is a very practical short history of leather, then a god overview of techniques, and then some intorductory projects including weaving, carving, painting and tooling of different leathers. There also is a section with pictures of Modern & old Leather Art. Much more than a coffee-table book!

Good for the artistically-minded

I found this to be a very good book although I think that it is more for the artistic side of leather work than the practical. I will nonetheless try at least a couple of the projects because they look nice and the book showed me that I could perhaps explore a more artistic side of myself.

A change for the better.

I do truly believe in Feng Shui. I believe you need harmony for happiness, wealth, and to prosper. I never knew how to start though. This book has really gave me some great ideas about how to get started getting my life on the right track by using feng shui. I already started trying to rearrange my living room the get a positive flow. It will take time and practice but if you use the advice in this book you will be able to master feng shui and bring some peace and harmony into your life. I believe it also brings beauty and light into your life also. I received this book at a discount for an honest review. I recommend it for anyone needing a change for the better in there life.

Not worth the effort

Am I missing something?!? I see many great reviews for this book and it's the most useless Feng Shui book I've ever read. And I could only manage half way through! Anyone who has studied Feng Shui for more than a few years will not be impressed. If you're interested in learning Eight Directions School (which this is) there are much better volumes to choose.
My copy was so badly written, obviously it was never proofed before printing. And where are the credentials? Anyone who thinks they're expert enough to write a book should be willing to put in some background information. Yes, there are some basic tips (some of which are incorrect) but there's not enough detailed info. Why tell the reader they need to know their personal element, auspicious directions and kua number and then not tell them how to do that? At least add a birthdate chart in the appendix so the reader doesn't have to search out additional sources.
This is the only item I've ever had to return to Amazon. There are over fifty Feng Shui volumes on my bookshelf,and I didn't care to add this one to the collection. Again, if you're just investigating Feng Shui, this may be a valid purchase, but not really worth the money!!!

Ancient Roots of a Dynamic Living Language

Great history of an ancient and still vital language. Prof. Davies also gives an enthusiastic account of the modern revival of the Welsh language, not only in Wales but in other countries. The book increases one's appreciation for the beauty, history, and literary depth of this colorful language. As a Welsh-American laboring to learn Welsh, I found this book to be an added inspiration.

"Daily Devotion to Duty"

I think that Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger's book reads well. Very well, indeed. Were it solely about the five minute flight over New York City in January, 2009, it would have a lot of padding in its 300+ pages - but fortunately, and obviously (to those who know the author), it's not just about the world-famous events of the amazing ditching on the Hudson River - it goes far, far beyond that.

Highest Duty is a portrait of an American life. Sully takes us on a tour encompassing his small-town upbringing, discussing his parents' instillation of strong, consistent values, discussing his early love affair with aviation, telling personal and touching stories of his family and his remarkable wife and partner Lorrie, covering his life-long focus on improving safety and reliability in aviation, and reviewing his observations about our nation's commercial aviation industry.

While one might reasonably wonder whether a formerly anonymous commercial pilot would have a compelling story to tell - a story that goes beyond the brief flight over the Hudson River - the engaging pages of Highest Duty make it clear that Sully's story is engaging, gripping, and filled with lessons for us all.

Read this when you need to restore your faith in human nature

I read this book nearly 7 years ago when it first came out, and I decided to read it again before going to see the soon-to-be-released movie, "Sully," starring Tom Hanks. I'm really glad I read it the second time. For an outstanding "feel good" book, once is not enough.

"Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters" is the story of a dedicated and talented pilot who worked in relative obscurity until one extraordinary moment in time catapulted him to international fame. The events of January 15, 2009, don't appear in detail until two-thirds of the way though the book, which is very fitting, because Captain Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow portray how the events in Sully's life and interaction with family and important mentors along the way had prepared him to meet the ultimate challenge which had never been practiced in flight simulators - losing power in both engines at the same time shortly after takeoff in a major metropolis.

Sullenberger was the perfect pilot to have faced those unthinkable circumstances. Throughout his whole life and career as a student, Air Force Cadet, fighter pilot, and commercial pilot, Sully made it a point to soak up every bit of knowledge he could from his own and others' errors. He fought against complacency that could result from routine travel and believed in preparation, preparation, preparation. He engaged in constant "situational awareness," staying simultaneously cognizant of every conceivable condition, such as air traffic, wind speed, weather, location of nearest airports,and remaining fuel levels. He learned to anticipate the unanticipated. He believed that as a captain, he bore the chief responsibility for the lives of all passengers and crew.

This is a book of inspiration, but it also reveals that the lives of airline employees are not as glamorous as they had been in the 1960s, The Golden Age of Aviation. Government deregulation and the financial collapse of the airline industry after September 11, 2011, forced pilots to take a 40 percent cut in wages and to lose their pensions. Mergers and cost-cutting measures proved to be frustrating for Sully, who prided himself on customer service. He was twice reprimanded for making his flights late by insisting that empty seats be given to standby passengers.

One of the most uplifting portions of this book is the reaction of the ferry captains and any first responders who witnessed the river landing and sped to the rescue of the passengers without being commanded or requested. These actions restored Sully's faith in human nature, which had taken a big hit in 1964 when Queens resident Kitty Genovese was assaulted and murdered while 38 people who heard her screams did nothing to help her.

Do yourself a favor - read the book and treat yourself to the movie starring Tom Hanks. Yes, I am endorsing a movie that I haven't seen, because this is a chapter of Americana that makes everyone proud.

I liked the way the writing reflected the person he is: Written very simply, to the point and with an economy of words. I hope everyone's takeaway includes giving themselves and others acknowledgement for hard work with a loving heart. We may not become the object of other people's attention on such a grand scale, but that was never the goal for so many who excel at their vocation. Captain Sullenberger, his co-pilot and their families are a gift to us all, especially if we fully appreciate how hard they worked all their lives, reflected upon their experiences, remembered the lessons, and stayed focused on their life's purpose. He and the crew were successful and extraordinary people already. That day showed the world just how a seemingly ordinary person can make a miracle look easy.

Practical Solar for beginner to intermediate

This is a good introduction to how the energy from the sun can be put to practical everyday use. If you don't like to read a lot of technical stuff, this book is for you. Quick, easy reading the non-technical average person. with references for more information. This book has practical projects for the person who already has some knowledge of solar energy as well. If you're looking for a really detailed technical book of how to design and install your own solar collector (electrical or water), better get a different book. My 5-star rating is for those who are beginners or those that have a little knowledge of solar energy.

Excellent book, exactly as advertised

Excellent book, exactly as advertised. I just wish it went into more detail about required wattage for small projects. I want one small unit to recharge my 12v battery to run my cpap for 8 hrs a night and a small to medium unit to run heaters or fans, and many a modern upright freezer, or one medium unit which would do both. But do I toy around with a 5w and a 15w, or go up to a 45w? So far at least I can't find such reference info in the book.

But I have learned a great deal and really appreciate the help.

I'm about halfway thru this book and all it seems to have is VERY general information that could be found with a simple search online. There is also way to much global warming/ carbon footprint preaching. Do not buy.

Bourgery began work on his magnificent atlas in 1830 in cooperation with illustrator�Nicolas Henri Jacob�(1782–1871), a student of the French painter�Jacques Louis David. About the Author
Jean-Marie Le Minor has been assistant professor of anatomy at the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg since 1990, radiologist at the University Hospitals in Strasbourg, member of the governing board of the Soci�t� Fran�aise d’Histoire de la M�decine, Laureate of the Acad�mie Nationale de M�decine (Paris, 2003), and officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (French Ministry of Culture). He is also the author of several history books and numerous articles on science and history.

Henri Sick was professor of anatomy at the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg from 1972 to 2003 and director of the Institute of Normal Anatomy from 1994 to 2003. He is an officer of the Ordre des Palmes Acad�miques (French Ministry of Education) and the author of several books on sectional anatomy, as well as numerous scientific articles.

Beautiful! Any doctor or med student will love it.

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend in her 1st year of medical school. She LOVES it. While this is not an academic reference book for a current student, she confirmed that the pictures are very accurate and useful. The hand drawn pictures are gorgeous.

Note: The book is roughly 8x6x2in. It could be a good coffee table book, but may be on the small side.
