useful easy chapter books

Do I like the Droon books? Nope. I find them to be only slightly better than the Magic Tree House books as far as writing and story. I don't think they make good read aloud books. But my students love them. They are the most popular "easy chapter books" that I own. As a reading tutor I've read the first couple of Droon books with students so many times I can pretty much recite them by memory. They fill a niche and I'm glad I have them. Reluctant readers will often choose these over just about any other series.

This is a very good book! I started reading this book with my special education students at the end of the school year. They were very excited about it and really got into the story. We plan to pick up with the rest of the series once the school year starts up again!

About the Author

Animesh Das, Ph.D., is presently working as a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Dr. Das's areas of interest are pavement material characterization, pavement analysis, pavement design, and pavement maintenance. He has authored many technical publications in various journals. Dr. Das has received a number of awards in recognition of his contribution in the field, including an Indian National Academy of Engineers Young Engineer award (2004) and a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellowship (2012-13). Jon Vroman founded a charity which has turned into a movement and a philosophy.

In the Front Row Factor, Jon lets you into the story behind the charity, how it started, how he came to seek more contribution in his daily life and most importantly gives you a look at how the front row charity has impacted the lives of the recipients and their families.

Jon and team have had a front row seat to creating memories for these terminally ill patients and there families that both help distract and give them hope during their illness but also provide powerful positive memories if the recipient does indeed succumb to their disease.

What this proximity has provided Jon is a lens into what is really important, what people focus on a remember and how to create impactful front row moments.

If that was all this book was about it would have already been a home run, but Jon has extended the metaphor into all of our lives. The book talks about how to live a front row life and how to create front row moments for you, your friends and your family.

An easy, delightful and transformational read

Jon has found a method to simply and effectively reconnect me (and you, if you choose) with "what it takes to make the most of each and every moment." For me, that is often finding moments of gratitude, inspiration, abundance or simply acceptance, despite life's circumstances and challenges. Jon makes "a big promise" at the beginning of the book to decode "the secret to living." Definitely a tall claim which I believe he has fulfilled.

Not only will you laugh a lot as you join Jon on his hero's journey to find more meaning and purpose in his life, you will be deeply touched and inspired by the stories of transformation shared in the book by those facing life-challenging illnesses who received real live #frontrowmoments at an event of their dreams through the Front Row Foundation.

The book is superb. It is intended for advanced undergraduates, although graduate students and professionals can also benefit a great deal from reading it. The focus on fiscal policy and on optimal policies is most welcome. I agree with the preceding commenter about Chugh's book being a bit wordy, but that is the price paid so as to reach the undergraduate audience.

Malibongwe Xaba, Known to friends and colleagues as “Mally”, Malibongwe is an energetic inspirational speaker, author and youth motivator, who has worked with young people all over South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho. In 2009, while volunteering at The Salvation Army’s Mission Team, he served as team leader for youth teams from the USA and Australia. The following year he founded an organisation, Youth with a Brighter Future (‘YBF’), which aims to motivate teens and young adults to take a stand and make a difference, to be respected citizens in the community, and to achieve their dreams in life. He joined the Unexa team early in 2013 and, in addition to contributing strongly to the development of Unexa’s vision and strategy, has served as co-presenter of the Expanded Awareness Programme™ to a group of more than 50 inmates at the Westville Prison, close to Durban, one of South Africa’s largest cities.
